University of Miami School of Communication alumnus Patrick Farrell has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his images of victims in Haiti, affected by the storms of 2008.
The Pulitzer Prize recognized a collection of Farrell’s 19 black and white photographs, entitled “A People in Despair: Haiti’s Year Without Mercy,” depicting the devastating aftermath and its effects on the impoverished nation.
“It is exceptional documentary photography with a purpose – to chronicle the misery and heartache of the Haitian people,” said Luis Rios, The Herald’s director of photography.
A Miami native, Farrell graduated in 1981 from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts degree in television and film production.
