Coral Gables, FL (March 18, 2008) - Konstantia Kontaxis, SoC Motion Picture Professor, edited, directed and produced The Culture of the Structure, which screened in the Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center on Friday, March 28. Supported by Miami-Dade’s Art in Public Places and the School of Communication, the film chronicles the creation and installation of six works of art at the Miami Center for the Performing Arts, and captures intimate details of the creative and production processes.

Kontaxis was awarded the commission in 2003 and worked on the project until a few months after the official opening of the Center in October of 2006.
Ed Talavera, also a SoC motion picture professor, was the cinematographer for the film and several motion picture students were also involved.
“I hope that the audience took from the film a satisfaction of having an insight into the creative process behind each of the six pieces of public art that were incorporated in the Center,” said Kontaxis.
The Culture of the Structure has been screened at the 2007 Mendocino and Napa-Sonoma Film Festivals, the 2006 Art Basel Miami Beach, and the Architectural Institute of the Republic of China in Taipei.
The event was attended by local artist, Jose Bedia, as well as representatives from the Miami Center for Performing Art’s architecture firm and Miami-Dade Art in Public Places.
The March 28 screening was presented by the University of Miami Center for Latin American Studies as part of their spring 2008 Film Series.
