School of Communication print graduate student Solange Reyner has been accepted into The New York Times Student Journalism Institute, a 10-day intense reporting program that brings together students and writers, editors, designers and photographers from The New York Times, The Boston Globe and Times Company Regional papers.
Reyner is one of 20 students selected nationally for the Institute, which will be held Jan. 2-13 in Tucson, Ariz. Students will be expected to spend days and nights reporting on events in Tucson. They will get the chance to see how professionals deal with challenging activities and cover unexpected events. Throughout the program, students have opportunities for discussions with award-winning journalists.
During the institute students will run a daily news website. At the end of the program, the best clips will be published in a newspaper. The institute provides all travel expenses, room and board and a small stipend.
Reyner, 25, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in journalism from City University of New York, Queens College, in New York. She has interned with Sports Illustrated, Newsday and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
