Coral Gables, FL (May 5, 2008) - The 2008 ‘Canes Film Festival kicked off Friday, May 2nd. The festival showcased narrative, documentary, and animated films produced by graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Communication’s motion picture program.
This year’s Best of the Fest films were screened on May 4th to a public audience in the University of Miami’s Bill Cosford Cinema.
Most films were under 20 minutes and were completed for credit beginning from the summer of 2007 through the spring semester of 2008. Judges included University of Miami School of Communication alumni Juan Carlos Coto, (’88) David Nutter and David Isaacs (’71). Coto, writer and producer for 20th Century Fox, has over 15 years of industry experience. Nutter is an Emmy Award winning director whose credits include episodes from Entourage and The Sopranos. Comedy Writer and Producer, Isaacs wrote episodes for comedy sitcom icons Frasier, Cheers, M*A*S*H and the Simpson’s.
The winning student films will also be showcased at the Paramount Theater in Los Angeles on May 22nd as part of the School of Communication’s annual L.A. Experience.
