Today's journalists must understand and explain increasingly diverse and complex issues and be prepared to communicate across a growing array of media. Consequently, liberal arts, science, business and professional backgrounds are valued highly in the news business.

Our Print Journalism program, built upon an academic foundation of law, history, theory and method, is designed to transform students from diverse backgrounds, as well as those from traditional communication majors, into broad-minded, forward-thinking, ethically grounded news professionals who can work across multiple news, editorial and feature reporting platforms, whether online or in print.

The School of Communication's small, highly focused graduate program provides a solid bridge from any undergraduate or graduate degree to a rewarding career in journalism. The program, limited to 16 students, operates a multimedia newsroom under the direction of a skilled professional. Our internationally recognized faculty is a blend of distinguished academics and veteran professionals and includes two Knight Chairs, specializing in new media and international journalism. Students begin writing for publications and developing website content during their first semester. Most have valuable "clips" by mid-year, and by year's end students are ready to take their place in any newsroom.
