The Public Relations Experience Program (PREP)

The Public Relations Experience Program (PREP) is one of the University of Miami’s most unique offerings within the School of Communication. PREP allows students studying any major or minor within the School of Communication to gain first-hand knowledge through experiential learning by immersing themselves in the industry while simultaneously gaining elective course credit.

PREP, under the direction of Dr. Maria Scott, allows students take their knowledge out of the classroom by participating in a variety of events throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, ranging from galas, to on-campus activities like PRSSA networking events and CANES Film Festival; and even major sports tournaments like the World Golf Classic Cadillac Championship and NASCAR Championship Weekend. Students in PREP must accumulate 45 hours of work for each course credit.

PREP benefits the partners we work with as well as the community and student participants. Students have the opportunity to advance through PREP working their way into management roles where he/she is responsible for supervising other students and working directly with our partners. PREP’s partners vary each semester. Some of our previous partners include: Homestead-Miami Speedway for NASCAR Championship Weekend, Miami Children’s Health Foundation, Miami International Book Fair, NHL Florida Panthers, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the World Golf Championship Cadillac Championship/PGA Tour.
