Espionage Film Festival
March 24-30, 2006

The Espionage Film Festival is co-sponsored by the University of Miami School of Business (Paul K. Sugrue, Dean) and the Cinematic Arts Commission.

Spies on the Silver Screen - "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery"
(Friday, March 24th @ 10 PM - Cosford Cinema)
A 1960’s hipster secret agent is brought out of cryofreeze to oppose his nemesis – but in the 1990’s his social attitudes are glaringly out of place. This 1997 spoof of spy movies was directed by Jay Roach and stars Mike Myers (in several memorable roles), Elizabeth Hurley and Michael York.

Spies on the Silver Screen - "Spy Games"
(Saturday, March 25th @ 8 PM - Cosford Cinema)
Tony Scott directs this 2001 film about CIA operative Nathan Muir (Robert Redford) who is on the brink of retirement when he finds out that his protégé Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) has been arrested in China for espionage. He must then use all his skills to find a way to free Bishop.

Spies on the Silver Screen - "Casablanca"
(Sunday, March 26th @ 8 PM - Cosford Cinema)
This Academy Award winning film (Best Picture, Director and Screenplay) is considered one of the greatest love stories of all time. Starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, this 1942 film is set in Africa during the early days of World War II. An American expatriate meets a former lover with plenty of complications.

Spies on the Silver Screen - "Notorious"
(Sunday, March 26th @ 10:30 PM - Cosford Cinema)
This 1946 Hitchcock classic stars Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Bergman plays a woman asked to spy on a group of Nazi friends in South America – but how far will she have to go to infiltrate their group?

Spies on the Silver Screen - "The Hunt For Red October "
(Monday, March 27th @ 8 PM - Cosford Cinema)
Based on the Best Selling novel by Tom Clancy, this film tells the story of Captain Marko Ramius (Sean Connery), the skipper of the Soviet Union's newest nuclear sub, the “Red October.” Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) of the CIA gets involved in a tense, tangled hunt for this sub. Directed by John McTiernan and released in 1990.

Spies on the Silver Screen - "The Tailor of Panama "
(Tuesday, March 28th @ 8 PM - Cosford Cinema)
John LeCarre’s spy thriller is brought to the screen in this 2001 film directed by John Boorman. A British spy (Pierce Brosnan) is banished to Panama. Once there he makes a connection with a local tailor (Geoffrey Rush) and his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) who are both more than what they seem. A guest speaker will be present, as well.

Spies on the Silver Screen - "Syriana"
(Wednesday, March 29th @ 10:30 PM - Cosford Cinema)
An all-star cast headlines this 2005 film about the vast and complex oil industry and those personally involved and affected by it. George Clooney won an Oscar for his role in this political thriller which was directed by Stephen Gaghan.

Spies on the Silver Screen - "Sneakers"
(Thursday, March 30th @ 10 PM - Cosford Cinema)
This 1992 film is a complex but lighthearted thriller starring Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd and Sidney Poitier about computers, cryptography, government, espionage, secrets, deception and betrayal. We could tell you what it’s really about – but then we’d have to kill you. Directed by Phil Alden Robinson.
