Students explore the role and study the theories of Communication in life and work. The SoC Communication Studies program is rooted in applied research and theory offering students opportunities to develop their knowledge of human communication in interpersonal, intercultural and corporate settings.

Faculty lead their respective fields, serve as officers in the leading Communication professional organizations and collaborate with students and one another in the constant pursuit of expanding knowledge in the arena of Communication Study.

Coursework includes Interpersonal Communication, Nonverbal Communication, and Argumentation and Critical Thinking. The program specializes in the rapidly developing field of health communication through collaborative work with the UM School of Medicine and other campus resources.

The program also houses the award-winning University of Miami Debate Team which boasted three members of the 2005 All-American Debate Team.
